With the wind blowing and the rain just holding off, we said goodbye to a nonagenarian in what was not our first Warwick Funeral, but first burial. Yes, we’re that young. It wasn’t what we were thinking when we started those short months after Mum died, but it’s important to us that we keep true to the, “Say goodbye your way” motto.
For anyone reading that isn’t sure why I started Rest, well it was as simple as a passing comment from someone in the industry. I was told – when my mum was literally dying – that a cardboard casket wouldn’t do, wasn’t industry standard (well that’s just a lie). I would ask anyone reading this, what would you do if your children had already decorated this simple cardboard box, at their grandmothers request?
What happened in the weeks after that conversation is history, and you can read it in the blog on our website. In short, we did it the way Mum wanted and then started a business that helped others do it the way they wanted.
Back to our first burial, and – as sad as it is to say goodbye to anyone – I couldn’t be happier. Happy because Rest has helped this family to say goodbye their way. It was a simple, yet beautiful ceremony in a simple, yet beautiful casket. Returning a daughter, mother, grandmother to the the earth after ninety five years at this respectful Warwick funeral.
