Can you bury a body with no coffin? The question about coffins, caskets, shrouds and the more morbid... blue bag, are quite common, and the answers vary, state to state in Australia for somewhat puzzling reasons.
While states like NSW have an application process (for what reason is unclear), in Queensland you simply need to check with the cemetery that you plan to use. We have found that the cemeteries that allow burial without a coffin / casket, simply ask that the attendees of the burial, backfill enough to cover the body. I assume this is out of respect to the staff that will finish the backfill process, and that seems a very reasonable request.
