THERE ARE OPTIONS.
It is often the belief that once a person dies, they must be whisked away and stored in a mortuary or embalmed. That's simply not true. In fact, it is your right to keep your loved one at home - being the place of death - for a period of time. From the experience of death doulas and home funeral professionals, 3-5 days is usually the most comfortable amount of time. For many people, this is a time that they can grieve privately before finally saying goodbye.
There are options available that would allow you to keep your loved one in their own bed, without the need for cold rooms, air conditioners or mortuary fridges. One such option is the cooling plate we are importing from The Netherlands. It consists of a small and quiet refrigeration unit which circulates fluid through a cooling pad under which the body is placed.
