I’m an undertaker, and I started Rest Funerals & Death Care on the Southern Downs in Queensland in 2022. We look after families from around here across to Goondiwindi and down into Tenterfield.

I didn’t grow up wanting to do this. Before Rest there was a window and exterior cleaning business, and before that a number of years in hospitality. It took me 43 years to work out what I wanted to be when I grew up.

What changed things was Mum. She wanted a cardboard casket, something her kids and grandkids could draw on, and when I rang around I was told it was “disgusting” and “not industry standard”. There’s no such thing. It’s a choice. So I registered a funeral business, two weeks before she died.

What I’ve learnt since is that most people have no idea what their choices actually are. That’s what One Day is about. I pick a card, tell a story, and give you the plain facts, so that one day, when you need it, you’ll know your choices.
