Looking forward, looking back… I’ve come a long way down the track, got a long way left to go.
Making songs, from what I know…
Rest Funerals & Death Care here in the Southern Downs, is still a baby at two and a half years, but we’ve come a long way in that time and helped more than a few dozen people and their families say goodbye their own way.
This week we performed not our first burial, but our first in Stanthorpe. This beautiful song by Slim Dusty was played as the attendees cast their chosen piece of gum foliage over the coffin. I don’t like to use the word theme, to describe it, because it’s much more than that, so we’ll say that Bushy summed up the feeling, the vibe of the day.
The eulogy, comprehensive and succinct at the same time was delivered with a voice that carried without the help of microphone. I learned so much about this character, this honest and hard working man I’d had in my care for a couple of weeks. I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to say it. I feel honoured to be asked and chosen to assist with this final journey of the vessel after a persons life has come to and end, whether it is a burial or a cremation, whether there is a service, memorial or neither.
Thank you, W,L & the rest of the family for that.
