When Francis Bacon proclaimed, “Knowledge is Power”, he was really referring to the natural world, science and how understanding it and making good use of it can benefit all of society… mankind. He wasn’t thinking about funerals in the Southern Downs, half a millennium away.
A huge part of why we exist is advocacy and from a different perspective, we are very much a “Knowledge is Power” kind of company.
We recently supported a family from New South Wales, that did not want their loved one cremated in an MDF casket. And fair enough too. Formaldehyde glues… it’s not our thing either. Unfortunately as most crematoriums in their region are privately owned, whatever reason given for not allowing cardboard or a cremation tray is effectively law. It’s interesting however, that cremation in cardboard caskets and trays is the norm for many crematoria throughout the country.
While they still engaged the services of their supportive funeral director to provide a fitting service, we then took over to make things happen the way they wanted. We’re not really TRYING to break the mould, it’s just about our right to choice. Pulling down the veil and saying, “Hey, we want it this way.”
And a quick thank you to Direct Mortuary Transfers Australia for their professional and respectful service to the dead throughout the country.
