I’ve read and shared many quotes relating to death and dying. Light and joyous quotes and those that bring on the waterworks. The last few weeks have been hard, as a close friend lost her partner in life. This friend of mine has been so supportive of me, not only in the development of Rest, but me as a person. I only hope I can be as much of a support to her now, as she has been to me.
It was important to bring that up, because at the funeral there was one quote mentioned by Banksy, similar to a few other quotes I’ve read.
“They say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name on Earth for the last time.”
It made me think about this brief moment, when Mum and her sister introduced their grandchildren for the first time. Grammy Bobs and Gai Gai have stopped breathing, and in their arms here, are the two people most likely to remember them and speak their names for the very last time.
I guess I’m one of the lucky ones, as I flick through photos of Mum all the time and the kids see me doing it. We talk about her often and even just last night we had tears from B, before bed. “It’s ok my love, cry all you want. It’s good to cry… it means you’re still thinking about her.”
Say their names often, talk about them, cry for your loss and you will enjoy many more years with them.
