It was brought to our attention that people have been targeted by scammers at the worst possible time, after the death of a loved one. We heard about this 6 months ago, but one of our clients recently mentioned it.
The method they use is to access open Facebook profiles and collect photos to create a fake Facebook account using the deceased’s name and photo. They tack on “Live Stream Service” or something similar to lure friends and other connections, to add them as a friend.

The best thing you can do to prevent this sort of thing from continuing is to check your privacy settings in Facebook. Close your profile to friends only and stay safe online.
