What can we send along with our loved one?

by Ulls / 12.04.22 / Published in Blog

“Dear Grammy, I wish you good luck on your journey. Remember how much I love you and that I’d do anything for you.” My child’s words in a note they placed in mum’s Daisy Box. I cry whenever I look at this photo. The kindness, the love of giving that my mum was known for now carries on through my child.

Letter to grammy

When Mum died, we invited the small group attending our memorial under the gum tree, to bring things they thought she might like to take on her way. There were letters and poems, a New Idea and even a book of sudoku to keep her busy. That process became a part of our little ceremony and was healing, in its own sort of way.

You could include things such as flowers and photos, however, rather than tell you what to include, it would be easier to mention here what you shouldn’t and can’t include;

  • Materials containing Poly-vinyl chloride (PVC)
  • Latex based rubber (mattress, wet suit type materials)
  • Rubber / plastic soled and upper shoes
  • Electrical components (pacemaker, drug infusion pump etc…)
  • Batteries
  • Metal walking stick
  • non ferrous metals (non magnetic metals)

The following items are acceptable but not recommended;

  • Spectacles
  • Jewellery
  • Handbags (not PVC)

Whatever you choose will be special to you. Keep it simple and remember the environment when making your choices.
