Cremulator

Cremulator

A cremulator is a machine used after cremation to process the remaining bone fragments into the fine, granular material commonly called ashes or cremated remains.

What remains after cremation. During cremation, most of the person’s soft tissue is consumed, but the mineral structure of the bones remains. Once the cremation has finished and the material has cooled sufficiently, these larger bone fragments are collected for further processing.

The bones are reduced mechanically. The cremulator breaks and grinds the remaining bone fragments into smaller particles. The result is a relatively consistent, fine material that can be placed into a container and returned to the family.

The ashes are not produced by the cremulator. The cremulator does not burn the person or create the cremated remains through heat. That happens inside the Cremator. The cremulator simply processes what remains after cremation.

The result is not really ash. What is commonly called ashes is primarily processed bone mineral rather than ash in the same sense as the residue left after burning wood or paper. Ashes or cremated remains are therefore more accurate descriptions of what the family receives.

Processing is part of the cremation process. The cremulator allows the remaining bone fragments to be reduced to a form that can be safely and respectfully placed into a Standard Ashes Container, Urn or another suitable container.

A cremulator is therefore the machine that processes the remaining bone fragments after cremation, while the cremator is the machine in which the cremation itself takes place.
