About MyRest

MyRest began with one very personal funeral.

Our mum knew what she wanted. She didn’t want the bells and certainly didn’t want the whistles. She wanted something simple, including a plain box that her family could draw on and cover in lavender.

Making that happen wasn’t as straightforward as we expected.

But it taught us something important.

The funeral industry can make people believe there is only one way to do things.

There isn’t.

That experience became the foundation of MyRest.

We created it because we believe families should have more information, more choice and more control over the way they say goodbye.

Not every funeral needs to look the same.

And neither should every funeral service.

We believe funerals should be about people, not packages.

MyRest exists because we believe there should be another way to arrange a funeral.

A funeral doesn’t need to be elaborate to be meaningful. It doesn’t need expensive products, complicated packages or a long list of things that families are told they should have.

It needs to reflect the person who has died and the people who are left behind.

Sometimes that means a traditional funeral with all the familiar elements. Sometimes it means a quiet cremation with no ceremony at all. It might mean gathering around a coffin at home, holding a vigil, decorating a simple casket together, or creating a memorial sometime after the cremation.

There isn’t one right way.

Choice matters

We don’t believe a funeral should come as a predetermined package.

Every family is different. Every person is different. Circumstances are different.

Some people want us to take care of everything. Others want to be closely involved. Some want something very simple. Others want to create a farewell that is elaborate, personal and completely their own.

Our job is not to decide what a funeral should look like.

Our job is to help you work out what is possible, explain your options and support you in making the choices that are right for you.

Affordable doesn’t have to mean cheap

We believe there is an important difference between spending less and caring less.

A funeral can be affordable without feeling cheap or impersonal.

In fact, sometimes removing the things that aren’t important creates more room for the things that are.

A family might save money by choosing a simple casket, while spending their time and energy decorating it themselves. They might choose a simple cremation and hold a memorial later. They might decide they don’t need a formal funeral service at all.

The value of a farewell isn’t determined by how much money was spent on it.

We believe in transparency

Funeral costs can be difficult to understand.

That’s why we try to make our pricing and services as clear as possible. Rather than hiding everything inside a single package, we explain the different components involved and where costs may vary.

You should be able to understand what you are paying for.

You should be able to choose what you need.

And you should be able to say no to what you don’t.

We don’t think asking questions about price means you care any less about the person who has died.

We focus on what can be done

Funeral arrangements don’t always fit neatly into a standard process.

Sometimes the circumstances are complicated. Sometimes the family wants something unusual. Sometimes there is very little money. Sometimes the person arranging the funeral isn’t even a member of the family.

Our starting point is not:

“That’s not how funerals are done.”

It’s:

“Let’s see what can be done.”

There will always be practical, legal or financial limitations. We won’t pretend otherwise. But within those boundaries, there is often more choice than people realise.

Regional people deserve real choice too

MyRest was created in regional Queensland, where funeral choices can sometimes be limited.

Living outside a major city shouldn’t mean accepting whatever funeral arrangements happen to be available.

People in regional communities deserve access to clear information, honest pricing and the freedom to make their own decisions.

That’s one of the reasons we built MyRest.

And it’s also why we created resources such as Say Goodbye Your Way — so people can learn about funerals before they need to make decisions under pressure.

We don’t think there is one “right” funeral

A funeral can be quiet or loud.

Formal or informal.

Traditional or completely unconventional.

It can involve a church, a community hall, a graveside gathering, a living room, or no gathering at all.

It can happen immediately, or a memorial can happen later.

What matters is that the people involved understand their choices and have the opportunity to make the farewell meaningful in their own way.

That’s what we mean when we say:

Say goodbye your way.

Our philosophy

At its heart, MyRest is built around a few simple ideas:

People before packages.

Choice before expectation.

Transparency before confusion.

Meaning before extravagance.

What can be done before what can’t.

We don’t promise that every request will be possible.

But we’ll always start by asking whether it can be.
